Dressing the bump. It can be so fun and cute or oh-so-challenging, annoying and expensive. I prefer fitted clothes that show off the bump , as I think it’s so much more flattering than looser fitting looks. I’m also not against maternity clothes, and if that works for you, great! Personally, I’ve been able to stay on trend by shopping at inexpensive retailers like Missguided, Forever21, H&M, Target and PrettyLittleThing. And it’s a bonus if these items still fit and work in my closet post-pregnancy. I know ASOS is uber-popular too for fashion forward, affordable goodies. I just find the options SO overwhelming shopping through the ASOS app or website - but if you know any tricks for navigating ASOS, please share. Since I have my outfits pretty much down to a science, I’m sharing my #BumpStyle Staples with you all.
A few styling notes:
I LOVE a tonal look - head-to-toe nudes, white, grey, etc.
I’m also totally ok with crop tops and a high-waist. I work hard to stay fit, so I am ok rocking a tiny midriff as long as belly button isn’t showing. And let’s face it, no one wants to see preg belly button anyway.
Boyfriend Shirts - I also like layering these over leggings and a crop top or bodycon dress. I bought these, this, and this from Target - I found button downs and got them in XL - I’m normally XS for reference. But Missguided has some good ones too, like these.
High-Waisted Leggings -These Blanqi has been my go-to for workout leggings. Lululemon A-line style works ok too, but the rise just isn’t as comfortable as the Blanqi. I also picked up these Naked Wardrobe leggings in M (I’m normally an XS) and the material is nice and thick and stretchy, and these from PrettyLittleThing ones in a size M, although they aren’t thick and super fitting. They work fine, but the material is thin and the ankle is a little loose. But PrettyLittleThing does promo codes all the time so these ending up being like $8 - you get what you pay for.
High-Waisted Joggers - The key here is keeping the leg slim. I’m normally a size 2 in bottoms at Missguided, so I sized up to a 6. These camel ones from Missguided are one of my favorites. I also bought these basic ones in grey and black and wear them ALL the time.
Stretchy Mid Skirts - I can’t say why, but I prefer a midi length to above the knee - I think maybe it elongates the body more and gives a classier look. In any event, I bought stretchy midi skirts in like 5 colors during my first pregnancy and wore these to death, and wore them after pregnancy too, so it wasn’t money wasted. They’re no longer available at Missguided, but there are a bunch at PrettyLittleThing - like these and these.
Bodycon Dresses - This is an obvious one. The key for styling is adding a layer. I like a scarf around the neck, boyfriend shirt, cardigan or jacket to complete this look, otherwise it’s a little too basic for me. Nakedwardobe has some great ones - the quality and fit is great. I bought some in size small for reference, but I will say anything past the knee is really tight at the hemline and makes it difficult to walk or step up intoan SUV because they’re so tight on me, so maybe size up.
Wrap Skirts - I bought two of the Jaspre wrap skirts in two different prints at NeverFullyDressed for like $90 each, but since have seen the exact same skirt on Amazon for like $10! BUT I’ll wear these post-baby too, so I’m fine spending a little on them. Either way, these are a great style to grow with your bump.
